JOIN US AT CONTENDERS!
We are very excited about this year and can’t wait to see how much your kids learn and grow! Young people hold a special place in Jesus’ heart. He created them. He sacrificed His life for their sins. He longs for them to know, love, and serve Him. He desires to spend eternity with them. His kingdom belongs to such as these. That’s why kids matter so deeply to us at Grandview. Our goal at Contenders is to lead and train every kid to CONTEND for their faith. In order for anyone to ‘contend for’ or ‘stand up for’ their faith, they need to know WHO God is and the truths spelled out in the Bible. We strive to communicate these truths as best we can to each and every child, pointing them toward a lifetime of obeying scripture.
Each Wednesday night, kids enjoy exciting games, hear challenging Bible messages, and memorize the Word of God. We want to help your child become a spiritual champion! Our name, Contenders, comes from the book of Jude in verse 3 that says “Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” According to verse 1, Jude was written to "those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ”. So, in other words, to all believers. The duty to contend for the faith is for every genuine believer, including these kids.
Our weekly club night is divided into 5 Segments:
Opening/Music Time (Announcements, prayer and Worship in Singing)
Counsel Time (Lesson)
Game Time (playing games)
Small Group Time (application, prayer, scripture memory & discipleship)
Closing (reminders and awards)
Parents can sign kids in at 5:45pm on the iPads right inside the door. From 5:45-6pm is our FlashTrack time. During FlashTrack Time our leaders provide the kids with snacks while they go over memory verses and help them with earning awards. Music begins at 6pm with all leaders and kids assembled in the Sanctuary. After prayer, each club is dismissed to their activities for the night. At the end of the night after Closing, kids will not be permitted to leave the building without an adult to pick them up. Children will stay in the sanctuary in their seats until you come to get them. Please plan to pick up kids promptly at 7:30pm.
Here at Grandview, we are committed to the physical safety and spiritual growth of the children and the youth involved in our ministry settings; therefore, we have put specific guidelines in place to help ensure their safety while in our care. We screen every volunteer in the form of criminal background checks and reference checks. Once those checks come back clean the volunteer will sign an acceptance form that they will agree to abide by the Child and Youth Safety Policy and our “Core Values” listed on the next page. They also complete any Child and Youth trainings as required through the Discipleship Team. We have policies regarding male/female ratios for leaders, for minors helping with Contenders and for adult/children ratios. To see any of these policies at any time, please see the Secretary, Cami Sadler.
